okay so i was wrong on two counts.
i didn't end the year sitting on a floor in london.
and the streets outside weren't deserted.

initially we wanted to just spend new year's
sitting around sean and junjie's room
cause it was cold and drizzling outside.
esp after an awesome meal by weixin's mum.

but after nua-ing around for a few hours,
at like 1130pm we eventually
decided to go catch the fireworks.
okay i was rather reluctant to go out,
but i'm really glad we did in the end.
it was really a lot better than i'd expected haha.

not in terms of the fireworks and stuff,
but cause contrary to personal belief,
there were actually hordes of people outside,
just that we were in the wrong places.
cycled to primrose hill to catch the fireworks
cause it was nearby haha.
and it had quite a good view la
despite it being quite far from
where the fireworks were.

and cause we thought that there
wouldn't be that many people around.

or so we thought.
the whole hill was teeming with people.
you couldn't see the outline of the hill
cause it was just all people on it.
(and cause it was pretty dark haha)

but yep we managed to arrive just in time
with maybe 10 minutes to spare or something
and amidst all the shouting and cheering,
amidst all the exploding fireworks,
just felt a tinge of comfort and peace.
i mean, after spending the last 6 new years
catching the fireworks with the band ppl.
it just felt quite normal and homely in some sense.
a piece of familiarity in a foreign land.

and so i ended the year
watching fireworks atop a hill
overflowing with bustling people.

and just as 2011 started with drinks at my place
we started 2012 with an absolute bang.

the drinking itself wasn't the best,
we finished 4 bottles between 4 ppl.
since khee xuan didnt wanna play.
okay la it was really quite funny at the end
we couldn't even hit it from this distance.
like less than a meter away.

but the aftermath was just so bad.
weixin spent 2 hours in the toilet,
junjie puked on his bed and slept in it,
(much like i did at tgcp, just that this time
no one was there to clean up for him)
and i puked into the sink the next day
when trying to clean up cause
the smell of alcohol was just too nauseating.
funny how i always end up puking
when baileys is involved hmmm.

and now we're all camping in the kitchen
cause junjie only woke up
and cleared his dirty sheets at like 4pm today
and it stank the whole room.
its really the most epic aftermath ever i think.
EPIC.

its interesting how a year
can make a whole world of difference.
a year ago i'd never have imagined
that i'd be sitting on the floor in a room in london,
deserted streets outside,
bubbling heart inside.

as the year comes to a close
its a time to look back,
to count my numerous blessings.
and what a beautiful year its been.
2011 has really been one of,
if not the best, years so far.
this year i'm thankful

1. that school isn't so tough
that i can survive academically
and train hard for ultimate at the same time.

2. for my ever supportive parents (Y)

despite all the stuff i say about them.

for always standing by me regardless of what i do

be it frisbee or driving or starbucks or uni.

3. for the friends i have over here.
i really don't know what i'd do without them.

2011 was a year of change,
a year of meeting new friends,
and the sad separation of old ones.
the rediscovery of forgotten friends,
the drifting apart of close friends.

a year that began and ended
in totally different circumstances,
from sunny singapore,
to the cold and gloomy uk.

from bustling singapore,
to quiet and peacefully zen canterbury.

from happy starbucks,
to not-so-carefree uni life.

from financial independence
to living independence.
funny how i used to think that having an income
equated to being independent.
until i had to cook and do my own laundry.

to umm. the random group of friends.
i still miss lagging around
watching the world go by with them though.

why does it always rain
whenever i want to do my laundry?!
it gets so cold and i dont feel like
moving out of my warm room.

but yep nothing much recently really.
just ultimate and work and more ultimate.
life's pretty routine now.

mondays are long lecture days, 4 of them.
tuesdays are long seminar days, 4 of them as well.
wednesday is frisbee day yay, no lessons.
thursday is useless seminars day, 2 of them from 10 - 12pm.
fridays are sleep in days, lessons from 12 - 2pm.
saturdays are for frisbee, 11 - 4pm
usually followed by soccer and stuff.
sundays are for frisbee in the mornings,
maybe some work after that.
and laundry at night weather permitting.

but yep.
last week before winter holidays.
can't wait yay :D
esp christmas and new year (Y)

oh and before i forget,
the obligatory birthday post.
sean's birthday 22/11/11

what a boy.

but yep we celebrated on the 19th weekend,
cause 22nd was a weekday so boo (N)
mmm nothing much really,
they went k-boxing in the afternoon,
before dinner at some italian restaurant.
i can't even remember the name hahaha.
so much for a one star michelin restaurant.

umm the really random group.
band ppl + melwan + calvin + shiwei

went back to the dorm for dessert haha
and to give him his presents
cheesecake courtesy of junjie
(and destroyed by weixin)
and melted tubs of haagan dazs.

see its supposed to have an S shaped
maple syrup/crushed cereal topping,
but our dear AEP boy screwed up.

and the melted ice cream.

and his poster!
quite sure this wouldn't have happened
if we were still in sg.
we even bought him a pair of prc pants.

and as is the norm,
drinking games after that
with weixin's disarono amaretto,
christmas morning ughh (N).
it wasn't that bad this time though,
no one ended up puking.
guess 3 bottles wasn't enough for all 10 or so of us.
esp since shiwei and kheexuan left
somewhere around the beginning.

i have no idea what this is supposed to be,
but i suspect it has something to do with "gums".
just a wild guess.

since we weren't hungover on sunday,
went out instead haha for a change.
went to some market some place.
i have no idea where ahhahhaa.
weixin led the way, and naturally
we got lost for the first hour or so.
but we found it eventually haha.
it was pretty interesting though haha.
lots of junk and bits and pieces on sale.

can't rmb much really its been quite
a long time since i went back to london.
almost a month alrdy. oh well.

seeing the men from 40SAR ord
really brings back memories.

just over a year ago,
i was that guy in the sweat drenched no.4,
dried blood on my face (irrelevant),
half dead from almost no sleep in 2 days,
but still grinning from ear to ear
after finishing the last mission,
where all that stood between me and ord
was R&R and an 8 hour flight back to sg.
i was that guy gleefully waving my pink ic
in front of all the ptp guys faces.
i was that guy with endless possibilities in front of me,
ecstatic at having my freedom given back to me.

i had so many post ord plans,
so many ideas, so much to do.
and none of that mattered cause
no matter what i ended up doing
i knew i was going to have the best year of my life.
i had the world at my feet.

that priceless feeling.

and the year that followed;
indescribable awesomeness.

okay long overdue post, but still.

happy (belated) birthday cheryl!

cheryl's friends decided to throw her
a big 21st birthday bash,
(we'd never have done such stuff haha)
went down to london for the weekend.
turned out the party came in 2 parts heh.

awkward party yay!

midnight surprise at her place
which probably wasn't such a surprise
since we were making so much noise
instead of helping decorating her kitchen.

slacking instead of helping to blow balloons

partly cause sean can't blow balloons for nuts.

but its nothing new haha.
we are always that efficient anw
when it comes to helping out.
surprised spoiled,
but its the thought that counts la huh.
(and the £16 bus fare)

it really was all quite pretty though (:

okay la but tbh it was really quite awkward,
since we didn't really know her other friends that well.
at least i didn't, don't know about the rest haha.
but yep esp since it was such a confined space,
we were forced to stare at each other half the time haha.
times like these make me thankful that my 21st
was spent on the airplane here,
so much less troublesome haha (Y)

but oh well. we all love awkward don't we :D

actually it was like really a lot of stuff
considering we wasted half the day away

me and sean went to get cheryl's present,
the rest went back to fry goreng pisang,
as well as get a shit lot of jap
and korean food in the evening.

which is how me and sean ended up
running up and down oxford street,
trying to find a longchamp shop ahahha.
it was kinda fun though heh.

i swear shopping for women's stuff is pure hell hahaha.
just the simple act of getting a bag,
and we have to choose between a tote bag
handbag, shopper bag or whatever,
small, medium, large sized,
and worst of all,
they all looked exactly the same.
horror hahaha.
its so much easier with guys;
we just have one kind.
ugly bag.

but yes finally got it sorted out,
went back where they were almost done
with all the goreng pisangs.
not like there were a lot anw,
they were deciding whether to cook
one banana for every one present,
but decided against it cause it was
too much trouble haha.

thennnn split up to get the food again,
band vs non-band heh.
calvin and melwan went to get the jap,
me junjie weixin and sean to get korean.
as it was they were having a busy night,
and we ended up waiting for about 45mins.
caught some much needed sleep
at the corner of the shop though (Y)

but yes, we finally got our food,
then lugged it all the way to the venue.
job's done.

then it was umm party no.2
which wasn't that bad haha
cause this time the room was lots bigger,
didn't have to stare at unfamiliar faces the whole night heh.

one of the benefits of not being in singapore;
you can set off fireworks anywhere you want
just like a chinaman.

it was all really very
very very pretty though

then once again,
excused ourselves early,
had a more important party to attend
back at sean and junjie's place.
beer pong with 9 litres of cider.
the last i rmb was saying goodbye
to calvin and cheryl after we were finished.

yes, i don't rmb any of these at all.
nor the videos that weixin unintentionally took.
the next thing i knew it was sunday morning,
and weixin had his head in the sink,
puking his armpit hair away.

needless to say,
spent the whole of sunday
massively hungover.
good times huh.

and here ends SEUOIR '11.
south east uni opens indoor regionals.
what a long acronym.

kent 2 ended up twentyish placed
which was a rather huge letdown
since i know we really could've done a lot better.
after that loss against dD2 we just blew it i guess.
lost our next 3 matches all on universal.
how frustrating.

at least i didn't rage this weekend,
i'm quite proud of myself for that really.
maybe i just don't care anymore haha.

we played a lot better than at brighton last weekend,
but yes as a team still a lot of room for improvement.
fundamentals esp.
running to the discs, catching discs etc.
on a personal note,
more vision, less stupid turnovers,
and yes, more vertical ability.
i hate getting dicked by overheads.

on hindsight, i thought i did
borderline decent really,
considering i just came off a fever
two days before the tournament.
had a really bad sore throat,
spent the whole of the tournament
coughing and hacking away.
annoying much.

voted mvp by the rest of the team
but its probably cause i'm a fresher
and they're just being nice.
i had quite a few assists,
but i probably had an equally shit load
of turnovers to complement them as well.
so.. yea it evens out.

i really don't like the idea
of internally deciding an mvp for the team really.
i mean, if you're awarded by observers
then yay good for you.
but picking another teammate is just, idk.
its so cliched, but really.
the beauty of playing frisbee
is that its really a team sport,
and that there's no such thing
as a one man team or a star player.
without a great cut there wont be a great throw,
without a great throw the great cut would be useless.
we're all part of this,
its a two way thing,
how do you vote someone else
when everyone's equally responsible
for the success of the team.

unless you're hooch.

and sometimes single handly their defence."
i really like watching him play haha.
his defiance of gravity,
his complete disregard for his body.
like when he laid out into the wall
to score the universal against kings.
like it was the most natural thing on earth.

ultimate highlight of the tournament
was dD2 winning a disc for spirit award
and then spiking it in happiness
straight after receiving it in front of everyone
after some serious prompting from the crowd.
so awesome.
so epic.

but oh well.
that's the end of the indoors season for me.
didn't sign up for mixed regionals next weekend
cause.. idk. there's hammer time the weekend after that,
and theres no way i'm gonna spend
6 consecutive weekends on frisbee man.
there are more things to life than frisbee.
combo broken.

oh and random side note,
i bought fg shorts hahaha.

its kinda worrying when you see
that your uni team is aiming for fitness levels
the same as those the girls of eatdisc are hitting.

Fitness.
After experiencing Tour,
I have become a big believer that everything
(especially defence) starts with solid fitness.
As such, come late September,
all experienced players wishing to play
the regional indoor tournaments (Mixed and Open)
will have to pass a basic fitness test,
in the region of level 7 on the beep test
and 2 laps around Bev Med
in less than 6 and a half minutes.

sigh.
solid fitness and level 7 beep tests
just don't go together man zzz.
i'll come back struggling to hit a 7.
time for some self motivated PT.
or more training sessions.

as it is the time i spend at trainings
is almost the same as the time
i spend in lectures and seminars.

maybe i should skip indoors hm.
don't really like it anw.
too constrained too messy no room for expression.
i barely start the run and i'm in the end zone alrdy.
andd it costs £150 for gym membership
cause we play indoors in the hall zzz.
money which could be used travelling instead.

i really do.

doesn't matter if the team isn't that great skill wise,
frisbee still bonds people the way its always been.

i really enjoyed my time spent there

grumbling and complaining together.

it really sucked,
but when you're going through shit
with a group of close friends,

spent a day at london
with the band ppl since mel decided to throw us
sort of a welcome dinner or whatever.

£13 to london and back.
that's one day's expenditure gone!

but yes, dinner was home cooked chinese food,
something that i kinda miss since i'm currently
living on instant mee and biscuits and bread
(cause i'm too lazy to get groceries)
so yep i really enjoyed dinner hahha
yum.

missing you all alrdy sigh.

and then back to sean and junjie's dorm.
since it was big enough for 6 of us to crash.
and then uhh more drinking games ahhahaha

nobody was allowed to sleep
since cheryl was sufficiently drunk enough
to beat the shit out of anyone who tried to.

not much sleep that night,
but problem solved with the wonderful thing
called awfully strong and bitter coffee.

breakfast at 11am.
hahaha with all the other ppl
who were gonna be late for work.

and then went sightseeing haha
since i was the china tourist.

okay not much actually
cause not much time
i had to catch the 2.30pm bus back.
so went nearby only.

at buckingham palace!

then a short walk to knightsbridge
for some atas shopping hahaha
since weixin wanted to go see harrods,
which in his own words, was like a neverland.
true enough, we never bought anything from there.
ho hum.

act 一个 rich china tourist.

then after a budget lunch,
back to canterbury for me haha.
and wtf i missed the bus by 2 minutes,
had to pay another £5 to change a ticket zzz.

spent a total of abt £25 the whole day
which wasn't too bad ahhaa
but that's cause i leech off everyone heh.
and dinner was free too :D
but yep i really enjoyed myself haha.
really as if we were all on holiday.
other than the fact that i'm with the band ppl,
it was nice to be able to just talk cock again,
not to worry about speaking properly or what,
whether people can understand me,
whether they're judging me.
just speak whatever rubbish comes to mind.
its just nice to be in the company of close friends ba.
some sort of secure base like what daryl said.

one day seems really short when you're having fun.
partly cause we spend half the time drinking/sleeping heh.
thinking abt it i guess i should've stayed over the weekend as well,
seeing as there wouldn't be as many opportunities like this.
but at that time i didn't wanna be too antisocial over here,
i'm still trying i guess.

day 2, and its getting slightly better.

day time can get rather quiet really,
when everyone is out with their random lectures
or welcome addresses or whatever.
and that's when loneliness sets in i guess.
but its fine at night when everyone's back
and we go house hopping to find
random ppl to talk to and hang out with.
in that aspect i guess the ppl here
are really friendly; its still small talk and such,
but they seem more easy-going,
not really caring what people think of them haha.

but still.
i really do miss all the friends back in singapore.
its quite saddening when
i realise that i won't be able to see them
till next june earliest.
but such is life.
oh well.

i guess in some way its good that
i'm forced to move out of my comfort zone,
seeing as how i've been stuck there
for like 8 years alrdy.
its abt time ba haha.

on the bright side though,
i haven't seen much of canterbury
but from what i saw along the way here,
it seems like a really nice place (Y)
pretty fields and farms and stuff.
not very modern-ish and what,
but its nice in its own way i guess (:

farmhouses along the way!

more farmhouses.

and many other beautiful places
but i suck at taking pictures,
so not many nice ones haha.
its either really blurry,
or i just happen get a photo
of a random tree that gets in the way,
somehow while trying to take

its funny how after all the goodbyes have been said,
i'm more or less at peace with flying off,

haha everyone brought enough food in the end.

(properly, before SUO where we all start cursing and swearing)
singing rockband together,
talking rubbish at the dinner table,
its just kinda heartwarming i guess.
almost like family.

somehow before i even stepped out of the store,
i knew i was going to miss working at starbucks.
the partners, the culture, the working environment.

i have to admit though,
all the way back in january,
starbucks was never my first choice.
before that i had actually tried out / applied for
relief teaching, waitering at novus, bartending at harry's,
promoting liquor at DFS, scooping ice-cream at ben's and jerry's,
animal keeping / events coordinating at the zoo, and horrifyingly,
a desk job at my dad's office.

i'll never know what each job would have taught me,
but thankfully i got rejected / turned off by these jobs
and starbucks turned out to be
the best decision i've made in these 11 months.

i'm really glad i didn't go the conventional route
and choose to do an internship or office job
like every other tom dick and harry.
yes, starbucks does nothing for the portfolio
and the pay is pathetic;
but i have a non-existent portfolio anyway,
and the the takeaways i've gained here
are mostly intangibles,
lessons in tolerance, humility,
interpersonal skills, working ethics, etc.
lessons which are just as, if not more,
important in the long run imo.

despite my many complaints
about the horrible tourists at my store,
i really like working here cause of the
friendly and easy-going partners and managers.
pretty much the same reason
why everyone else in the store loves working here.
i think its a good enough indicator
that i'm the newest barista to join,
and the first that will be leaving in a long time;
the rest have been working here happily for years already.
it's become their second home,
they often drop by on their off days
or after school to chat and chill.

besides, when else, if not now,
to be a barista really.
and i have enjoyed myself immensely
throughout these 9 months here.
the partners are amiable and patient,
and i really love the working atmosphere and culture.
every day is dress down day,
every one regards each other as friends,
and really. which other f&b franchise
actually instructs you to talk cock with your customers
and make friends with them.
the emphasis on providing legendary customer service
is something i really admire and am grateful for,
because no matter where you go or what you do in life,
this is the kind of service you should be aiming
to provide your clients or customers with.

admittedly, it could've been an even better
and smoother journey,
but whatever doesn't kill me only makes me stronger,
and hopefully i've come out of this a better person.

i once swore that i'd never go back
to my outlet to work anymore,
but i'm not so sure now.
maybe. just maybe.

either that or jalan jamal hahahha.

i'm just throwing stuff into the luggage,

and so today was farewell for us
from the j1s (and some j2s).
pretty much an awkward affair,
since i don't know them much,
but oh well thankfully
managed to drag down jingyi
to come and accompany me
so that i won't be the only awkward one hahahha.

and yupp today's word of the day had to be awkward.
i contemplated ponning my own farewell before
since i reasoned that the farewell was quite obviously
not for me; they just invited me out of politeness,
so it wouldn't make much of a difference anw.
and i'm quite sure my theory's correct.
but since its the thought that counts,
i won't be such an asshole to pon,
so i went there to uhh. sit and stone.
its a free dinner after all shrugs.

not saying that i don't like them or what,
but its just that i'm not close with them or anything.
it was still sweet of them to get me presents though,
i definitely wasn't expecting anything really.
i'm sure i looked pretty normal on my way home,
carrying a hugeass board,
and a frisbee with a random head-shaking dude glued on top.

but i took out the figurines on the disc haha.
i needed a new disc anw.

what a weekend.
slept 3 hours on saturday night
16.8km adidas run on sunday morning,
then a quadruple header for SUO'11 seedings,
then shengheng's birthday dinner,
then man u vs arsenal match with the frisbee ppl,
(AND WHAT A MATCH IT WAS HAHAHHAA)
before going to pickup zhangkai at the airport,
then stayover at nickoo's house.
with 1.5 hours of sleep
(frequently interrupted by a half-drunk zk
manhandling almost everyone every 15mins or so)
then rushed down to work
opening shift on monday morning.

wanted to die haha today at work just spam coffee.
thankfully customer traffic was pathetic today.
we barely made $300 after 4 hours of work yay :D

but its been an incredible weekend,
spent with incredible people (:
somehow only the frisbee people
can make me convince myself to go down
after the lame run,
to play through the cramps and knee pains,
because haha i dunno.
they're just people who're worth playing for,
people who i really want to play for.
they're all so awesome (Y)

and the band people as usual,
somehow only we can spend more than an hour
playing stupid games to try to finish shengheng's cake.
nvm that i lost most of it and had to eat
like half the remainder of the disgusting pandan kaya cake,
(cause green is shengheng's fav colour,
and we didn't wanna spend on green tea hahah cui gang)
but still. i'll miss this lot haha.

having said all that though,
i think i'm getting increasingly used to the idea of leaving.
(although i really haven't started packing yet,
and its just 20 more days before i fly)
i guess chungyan was right in some sense;
you have to learn to let go sometimes.

last tuesday was sham to US,
today was weiguo to china,
next sunday will be chungyan to london,
and then it'll be our turn.

life as i know it is changing.

for better or for worse,

as with sham,
i'll never know when or where i'll meet weiguo next.
since he says he's not returning to sg during summer,
doing his internship all round the world instead.
(degree in international relations, i should have expected haha)
but oh well. i'll see him when i see him.

national day was somewhat saddening i guess.

although its true that i'll be back in less than 10 months,
its still hard to leave my world as i know it behind,
and move on to the dangerous and uncertain world outside.
literally, seeing all the widespread riots throughout the uk.

i'm probably just nervous about going there alone,
hopefully once i settle down properly,
meet new people, make new friends,
everything will turn out awesome.

but still,

and yes we did finish level 30.
but really. its an experience man.

its really quite funny to see all 20 of us

i'd have gladly taken it really.
and we all know how much i hate beep tests hahahaha.

but still,
i thought it was quite brave of people like zhiyang/sijie
who puked after level 4 the last time,
to try to take a bit of the level 30.
or tess, who after seeing all our agony,
ate half the wing, cried and whatnot,
and then finish the other half.
and then cried some more.

if it had only been the burn,
i'd have offered to try level 35 another time.
but i guess the real pain comes after that,
when the burn goes to the stomach.
and suddenly you want to shit everything out.
even though its just a chicken wing.
having our stomach on fire is no joke.
and then comes the next part.
shitting it out means setting your ass on fire.
i think its fine to say that we all had an interesting night hahahaha.

i guess sunset bar and grill is the kind of torture

GUESS WHO'S BACK.

but anyway yes last week
(or rather, just last weekend)
has been quite an eventful one haha.

ernest's birthday right after training,
then the subsequent stayover,
then church early in the morning,
then summer league in the afternoon,
then meijun's birthday after that.
and then work on monday morning.

and this lousy photo is all i have to show
since mr weiguo isn't uploading the rest.
at least last time he uploaded
both the random and the proper photos.
now we're left with the unglam and the candid.
sigh.

stayover was totally spontaneous though.
it started initially as a scam for shengheng to stay longer
instead of going home with his blscb weiguo.
but then again it made some sense
since we were all going to church the next day tgt so IN.
sorry about the post party though ernest. OUT.

maybe staying over was a bad idea though.
although we all decided to sleep early
(relatively at least. abt 2 or 3am i think)

sleep was interrupted ttm in part due to the fact
that nobody wanted to sleep on the bed
together with shengheng and junjie,
so sean rujun cheryl and i ended up on the floor.
and it was really really cold/cramp.
its like everytime someone turned over
the rest on the floor would be woken up.
cannot tahan the squeeze then have to get out
away from the blankets and into the cold
since i only have 2 extra blankets D:

and we were kinda hungry i guess
since i heard quite a few other stomaches growling
in the middle of the night haha.

so after a few hours of drifting in and out of sleep
we woke up for church haha.
4 grumpy and bleary faces,
and 2 satisfied and fresh faces mmmmm.
a quick breakfast at old airport road market
since we were all dying of hunger,
then church for the 9am service.
which we were late for by half an hour la.
then after service
(during which we were all struggling to stay awake)
quick brunch and then off to sleep for them,
off to summer for me D:

half of the '11 summer league team.
since the other half was mugging/injured.

lost to (not raped by) DK which isn't something to be ashamed of,
but i guess we played a really messy game,
definitely could have given them a harder fight.
probably cause its the first game of the league
and there're quite a few new faces around.
but oh well. things will improve soon
once we get more used to each other i guess.
starting with this week against rj
and the bugis pickup team and nyp.

but yep washed up after the game,
then rushed down to sentosa
for meijun's birthday dinner at queen's or sth.
which was all the way at sentosa boardwalk.

and then the rest of us went home,
so that their late night entertainment could begin.

its been quite a draining weekend,
but the hard truth is that i won't have much time left
with these groups of friends anymore.
definitely, we'll still keep in touch throughout uni,
but with everyone going to all the different places,
it'll never be the same again.
better to cherish us for what we are right now.
sleep can wait.

designated water boy at the 16/28km mark,
and once again i'm in the midst of
an endless 2 hour long slam of ppl.
yet give me the choice of being a water boy
or a barista during happy hour,

at least people are genuinely appreciative.

having said that,
volunteering really was an experience i guess.
and just like running a local marathon,
this is probably a once in a lifetime activity.
its not much of a big deal really.
volunteering, and pretty much anything you do,
is only as fun as the people you do it with.

imagine a horde of people
crowding around the hand off counter.
imagine these people
each with receipts of 15, 20 drinks
(due to the limit set by starbucks).
imagine say, orders of 5 grande caramel frappes.

now imagine the drinks being passed to you.
1pump-mocha mocha frappe, non-fat coffee frappes,
soy green tea frappes, 5 tall caramel frappes,
anything except 5 grande caramel frappes.
i'm really not kidding about
the wrong sized caramel frappes srly.

and there you are with a bunch of random drinks,
calling and calling and calling for a caramel frappe,
and no one answers or acknowledges.
and then you see more caramel frappes coming in.
and the customers get angry and frustrated.

they end up taking any random drink,
and they ask for bags for their 20 drinks or so.
but we've ran out of bags long ago.
big bags, small bags, pastry bags,
any carrier of any sort.
and trays and java chips
and green tea and tall flat lids
and whipped cream for that matter.
its a living nightmare.

as if work wasn't chaotic enough,
the customers weren't making things any better.
being the office workers that they are,
they think they're smarter than me the f&b dude,
and they try to tell me what to do,
as if i were their coffee boy in the office.
"don't call out the drinks;
check their receipts instead!"
thank you very much mr and mrs obvious.
if they had taken a step back to just
observe what they were doing,
they'd have realised that it was
impossible to say the least.
the initial battle plan was to
check the receipts beforehand,
but when most customers just throw
3 or 4 receipts onto the table,
then walk off to somewhere else
cause they think its too crowded and stuff,
its just impossible, i gave up halfway.
i don't know who's receipt belongs to whom,
and sometimes they don't too.
some don't even know what they ordered.
"check their receipts,
they probably don't know what they ordered."
and they have the cheek
to say it as if its my problem.
seriously, they're 30plus,
and they expect me to spoonfeed them their drink.
its so pathetic.

i know starbucks provides legendary service,
but if christine the district manager
was in my place instead,
i think she'd have done the same.
i just gave my most dulan face ever.
don't tell me how to do my job seriously.

its not as if they're students or what.
living on a budget, fine.
queueing for these kinds of discount
are at least understandable.
but all these guys were like
well into their 30s,
office people earning big bucks,
and they're willing to queue for 20mins
just to save up on the $3.
and its really just for the discount,
not as if they like the drink or what.
most don't even know what they ordered.

like this uncle who ordered
3 venti white mocha frappes,
no matter what drink came out,
he'd start waving his receipt in my face
and just keep going
"is this mine, is this mine, is this mine"
even if its a green tea frappe,
or dark mocha, or raspberry or mango.
seriously pissed me off.
quite obvious white mocha isn't green,
or brown or purple or yellow.
he just kept bugging me.
as if i weren't flusterred enough.

or the times where i call out for say,
a grande mocha frappe,
call and call and call for a few minutes,
and they just stand there and look at me.
and when i ask them what they ordered,
they look at their receipts and go
"i ordered a... grande mocha frappe. ya."
and i just give the wtf-is-wrong-with-you face srly.
once or twice is fine i guess,
but when its for half the time, really.
is it that difficult to just acknowledge,
get your drink and get lost.

but i guess its only by meeting people like these,
do we then get to appreciate the patience of others.
like this nice indian lady,
who ordered a tall soy strawberries and cream frappe.
and instead of bugging me like the whole world does,
she sat patiently by the side,
before she came to v politely ask for her drink
at like 5.15pm after the war was over.
you really appreciate people like these.
i upsized her drink to a venti instead.

at the end of it all,
i just stood at the corner,
and waited for my world to resume normalcy.
just stand there and let the feeling
of being slammed for 2 hours subside.
more than 500 frappes sold within that 2 hours.
that's less than 15seconds per frappe.

friday was the worst day of my starbucks life.
given a choice i'd switch back
to making drinks without hesitation really.
thursday was awesome, i didn't have to face customers.
i just make drinks as fast as i can.
i actually enjoyed happy hour before that.

but oh well.
thank god its over.
like a marathon,
its a once in a lifetime experience,
but just once is enough dammit.

yup okay time for the bintan update.
okay its not really the long sought band holiday
that we've been musing abt for a few years,
but its more of a i-cant-stand-sg-anymore trip so.
yup planning and booking took all of
a week before we actually set off.
no thanks to our resident shepp (Y)

its was supposed to be a 4D3N bali trip,
venue tentative, dates non-negotiatable.
but shepp's mum said bali was gonna get bombed again,
so insist no go.
and since other options were like
penang or port dickson in msia
which would have to include a 18hr journey
to and from the destination on a cramp coach.
so quite lame in the end spend 2 days there only.
so yup decided on bintan instead.
45mins travel time.
hassle free.
cheap.
IN.

and although to ernest's dismay and horror
there weren't any jetskis or parasailing nearby,
i guess it was a good weekend getaway in some sense.
a few days away from the city and work was just
very appreciated (:

living in a resort in the middle of a kampung,
quiet and far away from all the regular tourists,
with a semi decent beach to boot,
this was the life man :D

okay the only notable watersport we did
was snorkelling on the second day la.
cause no jetskiing and parasailing,
and they didn't allow us to kayak over to nearby islands.
and since kayaking around the beach seem lame, OUT.
but still.

another item struck out from my bucket list!

okay la after the initial weird sensation
of breathing purely through the pipe in your mouth,
and swallowing down loads of seawater in the process,
more or less got used to it la.
and it was semi awesome hahaha.
would've been nicer had there been more fish,
and yup ernest's request of a turtle/dolphin/shark.
but its still an experience ba haha.

mostly coral and seaweeds
and small fishes,

and the random groups of clownfish
hiding amongst the anemone.

and the dozens of sea urchins lining the coral bed.

and finding more nemos.

but ya la there's only so much you can snorkel
since the marine life isn't that abundant
and the water isn't that clear anyway.
so we went up to the beach to lag
(as is our usual habit)
then swam out to this floating platform
supposedly used for scuba diving

and then uhh monkeyed around
i mean. what else can we do really.
hahahah cui gang ma.

but ya la before long had to go back
cause it started raining.
which then brought us the opportunity
of sitting atop an open air speedboat,
in the middle of a thunderstorm,
rain lashing (really painfully) against our faces,
strong winds chilling our bones,
protected only by a wet towel,
which we cleverly removed a while later
cause we wanted to see who would be the first
to chicken out and hide back inside the towel.
hwachong's smart future world leaders huh.
btw unsurprisingly, ernest lost haha.

on hindsight, it was pretty dangerous,
but it was seriously quite fun hahahhaha.
what the hell man.

taken before that fateful trip
when we were still warm enough to smile.

okay despite the fact that we only did snorkelling,
the rest of the trip turned out pretty enjoyable too.
be it playing mahjong or talking cock,
lying down and staring at the brilliant stars,
trying to wake ernest and rujun up every morning,
playing saboteur/bang/poker by the beach,
sprawled around the living room of the villa
watching the most fail late night horror movie
called tak or sth,
our short karaoke session with the few other guests,
accompanying ernest back to the villa
for him to have a quick nap after every meal,
our neverending requests to the poor concierge,
and of course, the many failed attempts
at downgrading our cui villa to the seaside rooms.

and of course,
the main purpose of our trip,
the beach.

i guess its cause we live in sg
that's why we're so fascinated with beaches
that you can wade out to at low tide
and walk amidst marine life at its original state,
schools of fishes, corals, crabs, starfishes
(what we did to those we found doesn't count la)
and best of all,
all these can be done when you're 200m away from shore,
barely knee deep in seawater.
how awesome is that.

haha man i dread working life already.
3 months in to a fun and interactive job
and i alrdy wanna escape from
the routine of everyday life.
what more a mundance office job
that i'll be doing for the next 20 years or so.

but then again,
those worries can be brought up 5 years later.
for now i shall just sit back and enjoy life heh.
next up, thailand-cambodia-laos! :D

every saturday i go for training,
knowing what i want to work on,
what i need to improve on.

and every week after training,
i know i won't have acheived
whatever i set out to do.
throwing upwind, decision making,
vision, game awareness, hard defence.
and yes, i do end up a little moody sometimes,
so please bear with me if i start acting strange.
sigh.

its as though i've hit my plateau,
and i'll stay at this lousy state forever.
sometimes i really feel as though its a waste of time,
cause i really don't take anything
substantial out of training at all.
maybe i'm just not training hard enough.

its all in the mind.

hopefully i get a damn good coach in uni.
oh well.

on another note,
jap buffet after that was really.
overkill hahaha.

not too bad for $20 really.

its undeniable that there's this
niggling sense of apprehension,

over here in singapore to start another one
over there in the uk.

a refreshing change of environment.
living independently in a foreign land.
meeting different people from different places.
going through a different education system.
and the chance to travel europe!
i mean, when better to travel haha :D

i don't want my 11 month holiday to end
yet i'm really quite excited to go over to study.
its really the best of both worlds (:

its been an eventful week of sorts i guess,
IELTS, TP, then Open Circuits.
i'm just thankful that everything
turned out alright in the end (:

after the buzz of last week,
its back to routine life for now.
beginning to get a bit too predictable,
which explains my very updated blog.
i realised i haven't been here
for almost two weeks alrdy D:
now with driving lessons a thing of the past,
i've got a lot more free time on my hands.

time to look for new things to do! :D

the end.

it was really sian loh
haha oh well.
as with the past 12301380138 years,
reunion dinner then da gu ma's house,
ah ma's house then dua yi's house.
finish yay.

and as with the past 12301383 years,
awkward small talk with aunties and uncles,
with people i meet once a year,
with old people who ask me how old i am,
and corny uncles who never fail
to ask about the same non-existant
girlfriend every year
(and then laugh as if they just told
the world's most original joke ever)

thankfully only for two days.
saturday was frisbee pickup,
before bandbandbandband pre-cny gathering gathering.
this time shengheng opened up his place,
(since his family was supposed to be at his other house)
so we went all the way to downtown west.
boon lag blk 754 #14-42.

i told my mum that we wouldn't be gambling or drinking
and ironically enough,
that's what we ended up doing the whole day.
mahjong blackjack and in between.
i really suck at mahjong
(and blackjack as the frisbee ppl shd know),
but thankfully in between was kind to me,
and i got my money back plus a bit more.

and then drinking games.
which was just bizarre i guess.
and really really messy.
3 king's cup were gone after the first 4 turns,
ernest started whining even before his first cup,
shengheng kept insisting that ernest finish his drink
before he continued on with anything else,
man u lost to wolves,
and before you knew it,
ernest ran off to the toilet to puke.
followed by shengheng.
followed by sean.

and junjie a lot later
right before we all went to sleep.

haha actually there was this period of time
when shengheng was camping at the sink
and sean was at the toilet bowl,
but by the time my brain processed the image
and told my arms to get my phone out,
the moment was over.
the moment lasted all of 15mins i think.

i rmb while waiting outside the toilet
for ernest to be done with puking
i was just looking out of the window
feeling the breeze (and trying to clear my head)
listening to the stillness of a 3am morning,
and not having to worry about mosquitoes for a change.
and i know i've mentioned this before,
but i was just thinking that
i really like living in a HDB.
its just the idea of living in a community,
where you can interact with your neighbours
or at least see them once in a while.
over here in my estate
i see my neighbours maybe once a month if i'm lucky.
even if i do see them sometimes,
i doubt i know how they look,
or even just their name.
i don't even know what the inside
of my neighbour's house looks like.
everyone's preoccupied with their own lives,
and the environment is just.. so cold.
thanks to the garden and the fences,
there's no communual area,
everyone's just so distant from each other.
it kinda sucks.

but i digressed.
drinking this time was really,
the total opposite from the last time,
when they came to my place to drink.
okay ernest and shengheng are constants,
but this time instead of me and weely,
it was sean and junjie haha.
while sean was at the toilet bowl,
junjie was singing into this clothes pole thingy,
before lobbing oranges to me and weely
(to, not at haha)
and dropping the egg on the floor,
before trying to eat some pinapple tarts
and instantly spilling half the box on the floor.
(i rmb saying that to clean up the mess
we had to eat up all the pineapple tarts
and then i proceeded to eat quite a few
hahahha what a perfect excuse really :D)
apparently i wasn't really thinking straight either.
when i realised my cards were really dirty
(no thanks to the spilt alcohol + egg white from the cracked egg),
i brought the whole lot of them to the kitchen
and went to dunk them under the tap
to wash away the mess.
and then i put them up to dry.
makes total sense right :\

i think it was abt 5plus am
when we all finally got to sleep.
sean lying in the corner,
junjie beside him after puking just before sleeping,
ernest on the couch,
weely and i on the chairs.
at least nobody puked on the floor this time (:

woke up at 8plus 9 the next day
helped shengheng clean up the house a bit
together with weely.
sean and junjie woke up long enough
to migrate to shengheng's bed to sleep.

i really wanted to stay on at boon lay
(and given the condition i was in,
i think it would've been better if i did)
but dad's side wanted to have cny gathering
at zhixiang's house.
of all days, hold it on the 4th day sigh.
so very very grudgingly,
made the painful journey all the way
from boon lay to bishan.
1.5hour bus/train/car ride.
thankfully zx picked me up from yck mrt.

same old small awkward talk over there,
not much appetite for food
since everything tasted and smelt like chivas,
then another painful 1.5hours car/train/bus ride
back to boon lay grrr.
for the actual band cny gathering.
steamboat + yusheng haha.

cue another round of mayhem haha.
most of the yusheng ended up on the table,
half-cooked steamboat food passed around the table,
and weiguo broke shengheng's oil bottle.
even his dad had to take a break from watching tv
to help clean up the oil/pick up the glass shards D:

what wonderful guests we make hahaha.
we clog up my kitchen sink,
we destroy sean's shelf,
we puke all over my living room
right before my dad's family came to visit,
now we break shengheng's stuff
and mess up his living room.
oh well haha.

okay. its official.
i'm just too lazy to update.
i have like this huge backlog
all the way from andrea's awesome concert
till xinmei's farewell steamboat.
so lets just skip all that

this week was cny week
meaning less work, more play.
yay you have to love part time jobs :D

weds was back to hwach to visit teachers
i mean, being the good students that we were.
haha ironically only me and jiehao went back.
maybe we felt guilty for causing
so much trouble last time hahaha

i guess at first glance
school looks really homely.

what made it our school
was the people,

the people we shun,
the familiar faces.

without them,
school means nothing.
it all turns really foreign,
and we become strangers in our territory.

once visits have been made,

we left as fast as we came.
and for want of better things to do,
we went to chinatown to soak up the atmosphere.

saturday was dinner at old airport road
good food, even better location.
zi char-ed, and yaaaarrrrr.
i nearly forgot abt the whole thing haha.
think i'll pay her back la.

anw after that ernest forced us
(in the way we always force shengheng)
to go to his place at pasir ris
for overnight mahjong haha.
and although i sucked badly at mahjong,
aiyah just go la.
lose a bit of money wont die one.

more worried initially about his dog really.
cause the last time i went over
it didn't let me sleep sigh.
just keep jumping on top of me
dragging its pillow over
to ask me to play with it. -.-

but ya anw we ended up at pasir ris la sian.
and luigi is really a lot fatter pls.
like owner like dog hahaha.
thankfully it was a lot more obediant this time.
the moment he sees you holding food in your hand

to be truthful,
i wasn't playing to win.
i was just playing to cut my losses.
so like win small in order not to lose big.
not very fun, but sometimes,

but yup played till abt 5,
then went to sleep haha.
ernest put luigi back in his cage
so we all got a restful sleep yay (:

somehow managed to wake at 9 the next day
to go uhhh church haha.
for the first time since christmas.
how devout haha.
paya lebar methodist church at serangoon.
okay la haha the place is really quite beautiful.
and damn big la its like a rich man's church.
but okay la the sermon was a bit long though.
for boys who slept less than 4 hours,
sean was spacing out at the end,
i was drifting in and out of sleep after the first 5mins,
ernest was just. sleeping.
haha for the one who proclaims that
"i never sleep in church one."
it didn't take us long to prove him wrong.

but yeaaa went for lunch at nex
after church FINALLY ended at abt 2pm.
then err home to sleep some more haha.

andrea's concert this saturday.
i guess we have no choice la huh.
since she says she really misses us
(so much that she doesn't turn up for dinner
when its just a 10mins drive from her place)
so bo bian loh we end up
paying $15 for a ticket to her drum concert.

"i say we should just go ahead!" says sean.
so on a fine saturday
despite the morning drizzle
and the dark clouds looming ahead,
we went to the island
of the last of the kampongs in singapore.
ubin, neighbour of prison island tekong.

yup so met up at 11am,
as usual everyone was late,
lunched at changi village haha.
zi char-ed again.

then made our way over at abt 1plus.
by bumboat haha.
and nope it didn't capsize.
singapore boatsmen zai one k.

shengheng ernest me rujun meijun sean
on the boat on the way there (:

and nothing la actually.
just cycle around the whole place loh.
thank god we got the $13 bike
instead of ernest's cheapo $5 one.
ouch.

but even with the $13 bike
we had our first casualty barely 5mins into the ride.

i was trying to scratch my butt!

mm as with most people coming to ubin,
cycled then climbed up the quarry
where we self declared a long break haha.

where we as usual
being the hyperactive and restless young people
do our usual lame and stupid stuff
like pee down the edge.

or throw ernest off the cliff

and play retarded games
and bully the loser.
(which was mainly ernest la)
like making him eat grass.

and here he's trying to run away
from sean who's trying to force feed him some sand.
for the record ernest was sporting enough
to get sand in his mouth in the end.

and yep haha i didn't do my forfeit in the end
cause there was this group of ppl
obs or what haha a bunch of small kids
who climbed up the top also
so i didn't get the chance to pee down.
oh well yay (:

haha and the customary group shot

so went all the way down,
before more cycling haha.
trying to scam ernest into believing
that we were headed towards chek jawa,
when we were actually going the other direction
deep deep into obs property,
on dirt roads which seem to go on uphill forever.
trying to get so lost inside the forest
that ernest couldn't get back in time
for his cousin/friend's birthday party.

but oh well we couldn't go far enough,
every road led to a gate
with 3 x con wire protecting it.
haha wtf even keat hong camp
doesn't have con wire to protect it la.
maybe there's more to obs than meets the eye haha.

so sadly ernest managed to make his way back
at least we kept him back for an hour or so i think :D
which left me sean shengheng meijun rujun.

and with about 2 hours left till 7pm
(when we had to return our bikes)
we made our way to chek jawa for real this time.
all the way at the other side of the island.

after many ups and downs
and a thoroughly bumpy journey,
we made it at abt 6pm yay :D
didn't really bother too much
abt the sign outside that said
open till 6pm

yup so just lepak and walked about
taking a much needed break from all that cycling
haha butt pain liao la D:
and sean got to see his mudskipper afterall
doink doink doink thingy whatever he calls it.
it was quite relaxing really.
just chill and walk around
salty wind in our hair,
sky above, sea below.
despite the darkening skies
and the fact it was so late,
we were the only ones around.

on hindsight, thankfully it was so late
that no one else was around really.
we spent a good half an hour
spitting at crabs and mudskippers
and whatever we could find on the shore
much like a disgusting version of paper toss.
got imba windspeed one loh pls.
no one managed to hit any btw.

just slacked around enjoying the breeze
and the lack of mosquitoes for once.
until sean got a call from the uncle
complaining that we were late
in returning his bikes haha.
which brought about the great sprint
halfway around the island,
back to the jetty and the bike shop there.
loser treats the seafood dinner.
for the record, shengheng lost haha.

dinner was awesome though (:
kampung chicken, tofu,
friend sotong, some veg,
man tous haha, chilli crabs.
haha real chilli crab,
not the sweet tomato sauce crab
that sean's mum cooked for ernest :D
dinner bill came up to a bit more than 100.
haha and we're really not so mean
as to really make shengheng pay la (:

and in line with the recent trend,

happy 2011 friends (:
what a start to the new year.
cleaning puke off my home wall D:

haha this year as with every year since 2006
went to countdown with the band ppl
at marina bay there together with
slightly less than 10% of singapore's population.

met up with the band ppl for dinner
and for once i was on time
cause haha too bored at home.
so yup dinner at raffles city
then walked over to marina bay sands
to err get dessert/kaypoh a bit.

the gang minus sean haha.
and weiguo who was still in phuket.

yup haha initially didn't think
of hanging around at mbs for long
but along the way chanced upon
quite a good vantage point,
and there we stuck heh (:
public area though
so had to squeeze with err
the banglas and the aunties
:\

but still. fireworks this year
was really just too awesome (Y)
haha esp since they used a lot of
those lower level fireworks
so they were a lot closer to the audience
as compared to previous years.
haha really made all the road closures,
detours and human jams worth it. :D
i'm quite glad we didn't spend new year's
over in penang after all heh.

but i guess we outdid ourselves huh.

half bottle of scotch,

shengheng's head was in the bucket,
(and here's ernest feeling a little bit too happy)

ernest was puking on my wall/floor
before getting his head stuck in the awesome bucket

weely was emo-ing at one corner,

and rujun was alternating between
biting everyone and chasing sean
all around the dinner table.

okay this time i really didn't do much cleaning up.
i know i tried moping up the vomit
and picking up bits of chicken wing (AGAIN WTH)

and new year's hat the next day.
what a great start to the year :D

having said all that,
my parents really were quite annoyed.
on a scale of 1 to 10 (familiar huh),
maybe 8 la huh.
not cause they had to re-clean the floor
but more cause we made a heck lot of noise
and they couldn't get a good night's sleep
ie rujun's fake vommiting noise idk for what
(yes they specifically said that haha)
but thankfully they said new year's la.

okay we didn't actually get diarrhea

don't know if its by coincidence or what
but somehow the first place we ended up at
was some sort of wet market thingy
which we later found out that apparently
its listed as the #1 place to go in asia on lonelyplanet.com
pudu market. and no wonder.
the whole place is just bustling with activity
people going about their daily lives,
selling livestock, buying groceries,
so lively so colourful
and so real.
nobody's touting stuff,
noone's blowing prices sky high,
nobody even took notice of us in fact

but that place is really.
dirty and smelly and messy and totally awesome la.
the floor is made of thousands of broken cockle shells,
there're puddles of muddy water
mixed with fish and whatever animal's blood,
rats run around freely, flies buzz overhead,
and they really sell everything there can.

i think i can sufficiently evaluate,

A FEW reasons why i should never drive a car:

#1. i stalled the car like 5 or 6 times?
manual cars ftw clutch easy to use ah.
enough said hahhaa.

#2. i never ever check my blind spot.
come to think of it, where is my blind spot anyway.
and motorcyclists driving too close to a L plate car
are really asking for it la haha.

#3. the instructor says i drive waaaaaaay too fast.
then again, this isn't my fault,
cause i was previously trained to drive a tank
and to move the stupid m113 a tiny bit
you had to floor the accelerator.
so ya la. out of habit loh (:

#4. i always step on the clutch instead of the brake.
the result of too much daytona and stuff.

training today was bad personally
but lets not talk abt it.

i applied for the relief teaching license today.
to teach kids in a primary school haha.
i seriously doubt i'm up for the job.
teaching p school kids isn't easy.

spoon feed them, care for them,

All they think about is study.

okay la firstly i must admit that
despite whining and complaining like crazy
i'm quite glad i went for this trip in the end.
mostly cause of the huge training area
(abt 4 times the size of sg in total),
which makes a lot of our training
relevant and not seem so lame afterall (:

accomodation there sucked though.
we were really housed in tentages,
sleeping on safari beds on sandy floor,
so when it rained,
the whole floor became an entire mess of mud.

yup we had over 50 tents in total la. D:

there wasn't any proper toilets either,
we had to shit in a shit hole,
then pour sawdust into the hole
to cover up the stench.
cui.

haha sometimes i think i'd rather stay outfield
than in camp cause i dunno.
camp conditions are almost the same as outfield
plus the scenery's a lot better outside (Y)
and you don't get arrowed to do random saigang (Y)(Y)

okay if a picture had to sum up the entire
shoalwater bay training area,
it would be this.

going up and down small hills
winding along all the way
and lots and lots of sparse vegetation.

first week was component training the whole way.
company mission exercise (CME) was for us
to do all the planning for the coy lines.
then section/platoon ALFS we weren't involved,
so we got deployed as enemy for the scouts.
haha okay la quite slack for me la
since i was the enemy 2IC,
so not really supposed to actively catch scouts
just go around checking to make sure
no one got bitten by a snake or what la.

second week mainly just ex valiant conqueror (vc)
which was undoubtedly the highlight of the trip la.
more of a summex for us AISL guys
cause we've never really been through a bn exercise before,
so with this i guess it'd be easier to understand
what we've (or rather, they've) learnt so far.

we got off to a great start to a great exercise (:
s2's vehicle couldn't start on the first day.
so we waited for almost 6 hours
for the technicians to repair.
in the end couldn't repair,
so had to bring in another vehicle
and cross load all the stuff zzz.

nevertheless, life goes on sigh.
it would've been nice if we just
declared ourselves dead and went back to sleep,
but oh well sigh.
worse still, CO seemed to like dawn attacks,
which meant really little sleep throughout the exercise,
ranging for 10mins to 3 hours ):

planning/practice in the evening,

move through the morning,

attack at first light.

okay la must admit
that the feeling of standing in the vehicle
throughout the night while on the move
as a vc or mg gunner
for 8 hours (2am to 10am),
in temperatures of abt 14 degrees (excluding wind chill),
sand blowing through my hair,
hands almost numb with cold,
down that stupid hilly shogan axis, >: (
is really a once in a lifetime opportunity.
but once is enough la heh.

which i thought would be the climax of the trip
but turned out to be a huge disappointment ):

and AI tanks firing was sth we've seen over and over again,
so pretty much the same old la.

only interesting part was the 2 apaches who came down
and fired .5" and hellfire missiles.
then everyone was like ooohh for 10 seconds hhaha

so can guess how boring the whole thing was la zzz.

so naturally the whole thing became like a camwhore fest la.

this week spent most of my time at home really.
thursday night went out to eat at chomp chomp
with ernest and sean.
spent $10 each on stingray
sugarcane carrot cake chicken wings
hokkien mee mcflurry.

friday met daryl for lunch,
today had training,
which i thought was quite fun,
like just a random pickup
in a totally stress free environment.
(minus all the mistakes i made la sigh)
just playing for the fun of it,
like what it used to be a long time ago.

then lunched at PS,
bandminton at koler ayam cc
sean rujun weely shengheng ernest me.
FANTASTIC dessert at a shop in bencoolen
which closed down some time ago -.-
then steamboat at some nam hwachong shop
thanks to ernest's recommendation
which i have to admit
is really quite good

following which was dessert at outram there.

hmm okay la this week nothing much really.
did double duty last sunday and monday,
but at least this means that

dragged myself out of bed at some ungodly hour
(considering my sleeping cycle in taiwan)
to go for training at 8am at farrer park walao.

mmm nothing much also la
only can say that after 3 weeks
of not playing ultimate,
i'm really damn cui and unfit la can.
aye haha must be the ji pas and bubble teas :D
hopefully can somehow improve by ghs
without doing any trng haha lazyyyy heh (:

then scrimmage with cj
which we won by quite a fair bit.
though i must say that i thought
it wasn't quite a good gauge of our standards,
cause.. dunno. we really didn't play well,
and neither did they.
it was more a case of who fumbled more,
rather than who had more good plays.
and yup cj had some fundamental errors,
slightly more than us,
so they lost i guess.

but still. a win is a win so (Y)

okay yay i'm back home finally ((:
looking back, i have to admit that really
i was quite glad i went for this trip in the end.

not just cause my life here is 100x better
as compared to last year
(i think most would kill me if they knew
what i did every day :\)
but cause i guess this time's r and r
had more free time,
which meant less talkative tour guides,
less bus rides (okay maybe not this one),
more interaction with the locals,
better immersion into their culture and lifestyle.

other than the obvious language barrier,
i think i've come to like taiwan quite a bit.

taking extracts from my little yellow booklet
(where i write most my stuff since
the internet rooms there are never empty
and i'm not supposed to say anything anyway):

the pace of life is slower,
the streets are filled with ppl
who're not too bothered abt work or school,
and there's much more stuff to do here.
singapore's nightlife is peanuts compared to this la.
the ppl here are friendly,
they lead simple lifestyles.
they take into account needs not wants,
no stylish jaguars or mercs or bmws,
instead 70% of the population ride scooters,
while the rest drive the likes of toyotas and such.
seldom do you see ppl walking around
forever plugged in to their ipods,
instead they talk to each other
to friends and strangers alike;
there's more communication and interaction all around.
it really feels like a community,
whereas singapore's just like groups of individual ppl
living their own seperate lives.

of course i would like singapore
to be more like taiwan in that sense,
but since one boy cannot change the country,
i shall leave it just as that.
okay i'm sleepy i shall go sleep soon.
much as i like taiwan,
i'm really glad to be home la.
home is where the heart is after all.

but i thought everything went on okay (:
apart from the fact that ppl got tired

but other than that i think everything went fine (:
all the way from early at 7.30am in the morning,
when me and daryl went with lincoln to anchorvale first

their last few days of school this week
made me think of my own last few days in school
almost exactly 2 years back.
and reading my blogspot entries from 2 years ago,
i really really miss my school.

yup so the reallyyyyyyyy long weekend
is coming to an end sigh.
13 days after i last booked out,
i'm booking in again.
at least its been fun (:
civilian conversion course completed ahaha.

saturday had training at farrer park,
didn't really do much just revise some tactics
then had a small game.

lunched at city square,
thennn went out with the band ppl (:
okay i went sean's house to lag first
and to wash up haha.
and sleep a bit after that also heh. :D
then went down to ps to meet ernest and chungyan.
haha okay we really didn't have any plan la.
just the usual meet up,
but oh well.
without cheryl or weely or like rujun
to back me up,
ernest chungyan sean won the vote hands down,
and we went to kbox sigh hahahhaha.

mm okay la first time kbox-ing
which i felt wasn't as bad as i thought.
but aiyah felt quite bad sometimes,

won ac alumni and tp.
oh well.

i thought whatever lincoln said during the debrief
was quite meaningful really.
made me feel that my $25 was worth it.
what makes us different from others
is that we're a team,
and teammates don't give up on each other,
even if we really suck a lot.
okay we don't la we moved up 2 places,
up to 17th this year,
but that's not the point la haha.
even though some of us are good enough
to be playing for other teams,
we still stick together,
just to be playing as a team again.
ie sijie who could've been playing (and winning)
in the league finals with shiok.
but here he is swopping first place and a gold medal
for 17th place and.. nth much else.
i guess its things like these that keeps us going.
as a team, as frisbee players, as friends.

went to msia for some sort of
food hunt road trip thingy
which we've been discussing since AISL
(which was more than a year ago incidentally)
but never managed to carry out
cause of all the admin problems
(ie staff daniel bluffing us

so yea friday the 13th was the day.
yup cause got ndp off so all can make it la (:

okay time for a much needed update
since i'm at home with nothing to do (:

friday met up with the band ppl
for supper at 9plus,

anyway ya as usual we were all late
so had supper at abt 10 la ahha.
but by then most of the shops also close liao

oh well. geylang on a friday midnight.

good news is that mantainence works
are almost completed on the ground floor.
bad news is that this means they'll be bringing

which means i have to shift everything out.
including myself.

which gives me 2 choices:

a) sleep in my parent's room.
b) sleep downstairs in the very messy living room

yup so left sean's place at abt 7.30am,
grumpy and sleepy (actually more like grumpy cause sleepy)
hair dishevelled, breath strangely smelling like puke,
shag like shit and looking like crap and everything.
first thing i did was to buy a tube of mentos
and just spammmmmm ahahhhaa.
get rid of the smell heh.
and try to cover up the alcohol taste.
else everything i eaten would've tasted like
martell or whatever shit alcoholic drink walao.

reached in time cause they postponed due to the rain,
haha but walao the pitch like super waterlogged la.
got some places totally flooded
till up to my ankles there

didn't see much of the j1 team,
but i felt the j2s did really well la
3rd place again isn't a bad placing,
esp since we won all the teams
except the finalists, acs(i) and rj A.
no medal and prizes we won,
but its the intagibles that they take away
that matters most of the times.
the spirit, the teamwork, the friends.
i really thought everyone played above their level
at some point of time (although not at the sa and rj match booo)
but other than that, the effort was really 110% la.

okay i shall break the past 3 days down
into 3 different posts

thursday friday off,
so wednesday night book out (:
thursday nothing much really,
just phototaking for taiwan trip
at PLC in the morning,
afternoon frisbee training.

friday.
met up with the band ppl
weiguo meijun sean junjie ernest.
lunched at astons,
then starbucks coffee
since b&j's no space haha.
typically talked cock and lagged like siao.
sit around and slackkk.
then wanted to go play pool
but around there no pool,
so ended up eating crappy food
at kopi n tea coffee shop haha.

then walked around,
and just nice got night festival
so went to walk around a bit loh.
haha actually i didn't think
it was very interesting leh.
maybe its just cause i'm too noob
to appreciate fine art like this.
but oh well quite sian and boring.
the only fun thing was like
the world's slowest sms bilboard hahaa.
ppl sms whatever they want in,
then the ppl in charge will manually

then changed out washed up
and went off to interjc at sengkang.
thankfully sean lived at boon keng.

year 2009, MAF was on the 19th,
i flew back from taiwan on the 23rd.
and i thought i missed MAF by a bit.

year 2010, MAF is on the 11th,
i'm flying off to taiwan on the 10th night.

i'm so super annoyed
but i just feel like laughing.

ytd had double header
despite having like 11 ppl.
against acjc, shiok.
won ac 10-8, lost to shiok 17-3.

against ac we tried to play properly.
against shiok we decided that we had nothing to lose
(and we were really tired anyway)
so we played pickup style (:
hahahha it was really fun at first
before the first point
everyone on the line was like zi-highing can.

at least we managed to score 3 this year. (:
last year we didn't even come close to scoring hahaha.
that's an improvement :D
furthermore shiok were really nice
after the game they let us try to play against their zone D
like sort of a training session for us la.
probably cause we didn't make them run hard enough
so they still quite restless, but still.
i thought it was nice of them (:
and i realise i need to learn to do 3 man drill
with someone really really tall and quick.
like the shiok rabbit D:

having said all that,
i thought the team could've played better.
we didn't really play to our best la.
against ac we were leading by quite a lot at first
but then we let them back in
and made us work unnecessarily hard at the end.
against shiok okay la nothing much we could do also
could've played better,
but i doubt it'd have made much of a difference anyway.

thought i could've played better in general la.
throws, timings, movement.
and i got skyed by a girl hahahha. D:
eh but she's as tall (or taller) than me

after the game adrenline wore off
and when i got home
i really really crashed la.

today's game against shiok
was a good gauge of our playing level.
obviously we have much to catch up on.
the gap between us and them
is really quite big still.
not really our fault either.
what with ns and uni and stuff
its quite impossible to commit.

ndp duty ytd was slack ttm haha.
reported at 12mn, went there, set up.
then played psp till 2am,
then watched honduras vs swiss
and spain vs chile concurrently haha.
then err lagged till 6 where i really
cannot tahan alrdy then sleep
like maybe less than an hour.
till 7 then macs breakfast
courtesy of leon who walked out to buy.
then just lag around until noon loh.
then zhong hao came to take over my shift haha.
left my phone at padang,
but i only realised the moment i stepped onto the bus
so aiyah just forget it loh
later then collect since its along the way
to town anyway so shun bian ma (:

then home, slept another hour or so,
before went to padang to collect phone,
3 missed calls and like a million smses.
cause i was late by then aiyah.
i was really reluctant to go out actually.
all i wanted to do was just stay at home and sleep.
and i was quite grumpy initially.
cause.

#1. lack of sleep.
2hrs of sleep is defintely not enough
for a pig like me.

#2. hungry.
last thing i ate was tiny portions of SFI lunch
at 11am in the morning
and knowing hwachong ppl
sure lag damn long before moving anywhere
or deciding on anything
and i was really hungry
so i really wanted to pangseh
and just go and buy some stuff
to dapao back home.

#3. i left my phone at padang
although it was really peaceful
confirm the moment i get my phone back
sure get dulan by a few ppl
like soon da bian
cause i never reply his msg
cause i left my phone at padang.
nobody's fault la,
just quite annoying for both of us.

#4. i left my phone at the padang
and i hate having to answer ppl's msges
when i don't know what's going on myself.

#5. the j3s were an hour late.
and hence being the pseudo organiser
i had to answer all the questions.
what to do, where to eat, what movie to watch,
its alrdy hard to make decisions.
its even harder when not everyone's around.
cause somehow someone will strongly disagree.
then gg.

hence i was quite annoyed initially.
okay mainly its cause of the lack of sleep la i think.
you do not disturb a sleep-deprived guy okay.
but after that everything went well la.
haha cause got food and the real organisers came
so half the problem solved.

which i thought was a really nice show.
i mean, kiddy and not much content, but still.
or maybe its cause i've not been watching movies recently.

made me wanna go back to being a kid all over again.
life seemed so fun and carefree back then.
all you had to worry abt was friends and play.

no homework issue cause its primary school
and no one studies in primary school,

no politics cause when you're a child
